Church of Santa Croce in Florence!
The history of this church begins in 1220 when an oratory was founded by the order of the Frati minori. The construction of a new church was commissioned in 1294 to Arnolfo di Cambio.
A Crucifix by Cimabue was placed inside the church, later moved into a museum after the floods of 1966. Inside the church one can admire real art treasures by some major artists, the likes of Giotto, Brunelleschi, Michelozzo and their respective schools, as well as some works by Vasari and Bronzino.
But Santa Croce is also the place where numerous urns and toms are kept, and here lie the remains of Michelangleo, Rossini, Alfieri, Leonardo Bruni, Galileo Galilei, Machiavelli, Marconi, Ugo Foscolo”, and the funereal monument dedicated to Dante Alighieri, whose body rests in the city of Ravenna.
