Accademia

The Accademia Museum is famous for housing the Michelangelo sculpture David. In origin it was placed close Palazzo Vecchio, to express the human strong and the Republic of Florence freedom.

Also the David origin has an story itself. The piece of marble in which was sculptured the David in origin is for another sculpture. The other sculptur, Agostino di Duccio, abandoned the stone which was taken by Michelangelo. He decided to do a statues of David. Instead of the little boy who can never win against Golia, without God help, he make a big and strong man, sure about its’ muscles and force. The eyes look show the interior power and the mental cleaver. The Michelangelo David is a paradigm of the new thinking and renaissance philosophy: the Humanise. Man have a great value in itself and have not to be terrified by extra natural power.

Michelangelo, following the new philosophical theories, believed also that is not the sculpture who choose the statues, but the statues which ask to go out from the marble. This thinking become stronger in the last period of his life.

The other statues which is possible to admire in the Accademia, respond at this thinking. They are not completed (especially the Pieta, an other version of the one which is in Rome and which is not smoothed) or they are leaved in the act of go out from the stone: the Prigioni (prisoners).
