Holidays in Italy

In Italy there are some no working day.

All the Sunday it’s holiday and office are close, but some shops are open, it’s depend on the period (the Sunday before Christmas the shops are open) and the city.

Saturday is half holiday: some office are close, some are close half day, in the afternoon.

Some shops, especially far from the centre, have one day free during the week.

The open time is free, in any case, it is around from 9/10 am to1/2 pm and from 4/5 pm to 8 pm Some shops in centre have no stop open during the day

Offices are open from 8/9 am to 12am/1pm and from 1/2 pm to 5/6 pm

Supermarkets, usually are open all day long from 8/9 am to 7/8 pm

During the summer some shops are close on Saturday afternoon

In any case all the information about the timetable are put under the main door.

Restaurant can be open: all day long, usually in centre, for lunch and dinner, just for dinner. Italian dinner time is from 7.30/8.00 pm till 12.00 pm. It’s better book the restaurant which are not in the centre of city.

The Patron Saint day (Florence 24th of June) is holiday, but not in the village around, which have their own saint. Shops and office are close.

Primary and Secondary schools are open from Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm. The other level have their own timetable

Hospital, Police office and all the emergency office are open all day long, al year long

Italian pharmacies sell medicine and some body products. The pharmacies have a green cross on the top. It’s on when the pharmacy is open.

There are a lot of Internet Pointsaround the city. Some hotels and tourist offices have ones. So it’s better ask directly to the hotel about the closer one.

European citizens can move inside Europe, for tourism, only with their identity card.

The hospitals and the emergency services are free for all the Italian and foreign citizens. Italian low guarantee to every one the right to healthy and the access to the National Sanitary System.

Italian communications

Phone: if you are in a hotel, ask to the reception to have line to phone. It’s possible that you have to dial zero to have the communication.

A rhythmic sound means that you have got line.

Public phone have no number, so it’ possible to phone from it but not to receive calling. From public phone you have to dial just the number, without any additional things.

It’s possible to use pre-paid phone card, that you find in bar or Tabaccai (shops which sell cigarettes, stamps and other things, and have a big T on their notice) and international pre-paid phone card that you can buy at Tabaccai, airport, station, and some other tourist shops.

You can buy stamps in the Tabaccai, the shops which sell stamps, cigarettes et. You can recognise it by a big T on the top of the shop.

Night and Day

Pubs are open from 9.00 pm. Is not necessary booking

Discos are open from 9.00 pm but people start to come in from 11/12 pm. Is not necessary booking

Bar are open during the day and are place in which you can have breakfast or coffee, sandwich or snacks. In the Caffè in centre of city have different price if you are “sitting” or “up”.

Cinema all films in Italy are translate in Italian. Only Odeon cinema have some films in original sound. You can check them at the web site http://www.cinehall.it/firenze.html
